FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Libertarian Candidate Questions Opponent’s Intentions in 39th District Delegate Race
Annandale, VA, August 3, 2009 - Judging by the state of their websites, major party candidates in the 39th house district seem to believe residents of the district don’t care much about the future of their community.
“The only evidence we have that any of these people are even in the race, with three months left to go, is that the State Board of Elections says they have filed their paperwork,” says Matt Cholko, Libertarian Candidate for Virginia House of Delegates in the 39th district. “It’s very disappointing. I believe the residents of my district deserve more from their candidates.”
With little over three months left to go before Election Day, November 3rd 2009, incumbent, Democrat Vivian Watts’ website is still telling voters that Election Day is November 6th 2007. Republican challenger Joe Bury’s website does not even contain an “issues” section at all. While you can donate to his campaign, Mr. Bury apparently believes that no one cares about how he would govern if elected.
When visiting Ms. Watts’ website, www.vivanwatts.com, it is clear that some sections have been updated this year. However, when you click on “I am up for re-election this year,” in her “Election” section you are redirected to her 2007 campaign website.
On Bury’s site, www.joebury.com , you can read a flattering biography on Mr. Bury but cannot find his stance on any single issue. There’s not even a section for them. Mr. Bury makes no attempt to address any of the many issues that voters are concerned about this year. While you can donate your money and your time to his campaign you are unable to be sure exactly what you are volunteering for.
“Does Ms. Watts believe she does not have to campaign at all this year? Does she think voters will simply re-elect her because of her name and party affiliation? As for Bury, it’s simply shocking that he doesn’t express his stance on even one single issue. It’s a very, very safe play,” said Cholko. “I hope I am able to debate them both on policy issues before Election Day.”
